Villarceaux "Nouveaux Membres" ScrambleVillarceaux, March 29, 2003: - SAC golf newcomer and Rookie of the Month Muriel Jones teamed with veterans Celia Berry and Paul Miller to storm to a 4 point victory on handicap in today's season opener, a Scramble competition to welcome newcomers to Villarceaux, writes Gus Hing, our "embedded" on-the-spot roving reporter. "Muriel really played like a trooper," enthused Paul, lead hacker with the Villarceaux Wrinklies, admiringly. "She fired in so many long distance birdies that her putter was practically smoking by the end of the round!" "Yes, Muriel was fabulous," agreed Celia, vivacious star of the Villarceaux Ladies team and battle hardened competitor, who, with unruly locks flowing in the wind, gave a quite breathtaking demonstration of golf at the top with astonishing series of power drives, probing irons, rapier chips and demon putts. "If only Paul could have got an occasional drive near a fairway or a put the odd approach shot anywhere near a green we could have walked off with the Gross prize," she added, voice choking with emotion as if struggling to cope with recent, painful memories. "Would you believe the idiot even missed an easy eagle on the 13th by a whole six inches!" All in all, SAC Golf section members dominated the final leader board by forming or being part of 5 of the top 6 teams, and seemingly outnumbering Villarceaux people in the other scramble, that for canapés and fizz. In addition to the prize-winners listed below, also spotted were Claude and Joyce Jacques, recently arrived back from Australia laden with pics of new granddaughter, Simon Murphy, Julie "Fingers" Peacock, Sue Hall and Pam Constant. "This was another great day for the SAC Golf Section," crowed Section Chairman Pam. ResultsBrut/Gross
